Advancing Research and Treatment of Oculopharyngeal Muscular Dystrophy
Optigenix is a research foundation dedicated to the advancement and treatment of oculopharyngeal muscular dystrophy. OPMD is one of a group of diseases classified as proteinopathies. Proteinopathies cause illness when proteins in the body become structurally abnormal and disrupt the function of cells, tissues, and organs. They are also known as protein conformational disorders or protein misfolding diseases. Our goal is to explore the use of small molecules that can help to prevent protein misfolding and to facilitate removal of misfolded proteins from affected cells.
